niquity, in itself, is not sin. Iniquity is
simply the result of the nature and spirit of the devil working in an area of
life our ancestors had a tendency to be weak in. Sin is the result of giving
in to the area of weakness. The conscience may know what is right and wrong
but we just cave in to the fiery darts of the enemy. Have we let the Holy
Spirit have dominion over every area of our lives? Apparently we can not
have the victory in Christ if we do not surrender our weakness to Him so He
can be our strength. Therefore because we haven't put to death the iniquitous
traits through the power of blood and the cross, we still have a tendency to
sin in a certain area of life. The works of iniquity are manifest in the
children of darkness and disobedience. They are blind to the truth and are
rebelling against it.
All sinners come under the curse
against the works of iniquity. We have all sinned and come short of the glory
of God. So we need to ask God, who is rich in mercy, to examine us to see if
there are any iniquitous traits in us and then to remove them. If we have a
personality weakness, it may be the result of the visitation of iniquity.
God's word is very clear on the subject. ‘You shall not make for yourself a
carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is
in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not
bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth
generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who
love Me and keep My commandments. -- Ex. 20:4-6.
The source of our temptation to sin
and our behavior may be the result of giving in to iniquity. We cannot blame
all of our faults on iniquity. After Jesus becomes our Lord and Savior, the
curse of the law, and the tendency to fall in an area, can be broken. ‘Beware
lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the
tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not
according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. In
Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by
putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,
buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through
faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead
in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive
together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the
handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And
He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed
principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over
them in it.’ -- Colossians 2:8-15.
For as many as are of the works of the law
are under the curse; for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who does not
continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.’
But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for
‘The just shall live by faith.’ Yet the law is not of faith, but ‘The man who
does them shall live by them.’ Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the
law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who
hangs on a tree’), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles
‘in Christ’ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through
faith. -- Galatians 3:10-14
Our Lord Jesus Christ became the
curse for us and every sinner who comes to Him. There is no reason for anyone
to suffer from the visitation of iniquity. When baptism occurs, God buries
the old nature in the waters of baptism and we receive the promise of the
Spirit. Through faith in God, we know in our hearts He overcome the curses of
the law and the iniquity for us that so easily overcame us. For it is
written: There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are ‘in Christ’
Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life ‘in Christ’ Jesus has made me free from the
law of sin and death. -- Romans 8:1-2
Therefore if we walk according to the
Spirit, we have overcome the sin and we are free from the curse of the Law
which we saw in the visitation of iniquity. If we do sin, however, we have an
advocate with the Father; He assures us He will forgive us. God promises, 'If
we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we
make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. My little children, these things
I write to you, that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate
with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the
propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole
world.’ -- 1 John 1:9-2:2
CATEGORIES OF THE WORKERS OF INIQUITY
There are ten classes of workers of
iniquity. Satan rules their lives and they reveal the very nature of Satan
working in them. Jesus Christ wants to reconcile everyone to God. It is not
for us to judge the heart of anyone for their sins. We are here to share
God's abounding love for sinners, and lead them to salvation. These are the
workers of iniquity that shall find no place in the kingdom of God unless we
share God’s love and warn them of His coming wrath. ‘But the cowardly,
unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters,
and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and
brimstone, which is the second death.’ ‘But outside are dogs and sorcerers and
sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices
a lie.’ -- Revelation 21:8; 22:15
